{"id":343,"date":"2019-11-11T12:57:36","date_gmt":"2019-11-11T12:57:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/?page_id=343"},"modified":"2026-01-12T08:19:02","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T08:19:02","slug":"showcase","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/showcase\/","title":{"rendered":"Projects Showcase"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right wp-block-paragraph\">A place to showcase our flagship projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#bddae6\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Ongoing<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hydroheal.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HYDROHEAL<\/a><\/strong> is a HORIZON EUROPE project that started in June 2025 and is coordinated by Dr Piergiorgio Gentile. This project aims to deliver <strong>a new treatment for vertebral fractures and&nbsp;alveolar bone fractures, based on multi-functional hydrogels that release a variety of pharmaceutical agents<\/strong>. The team at CBIT will work on the integration of smart drug carriers into the hydrogel formulation and on the digital models to optimize performance and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/showcase\/smartgut\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SMARTGUT<\/a><\/strong> is a HORIZON-MSCA-2024 Postdoctoral Fellowship for Dr Joel Gir\u00f3n, supervised by Prof Gloria Gallego. Started in June 2025, for two years will work to develop <strong>Smart Microbeads for a revitalised Gut<\/strong>, integrating bioactive agents, including probiotic strains, antioxidants and peptides, into microcarriers using&nbsp;a layer-by-layer assembly technique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ATRAE GENTILE<\/strong> is a fellowship for Dr Piergiorgio Gentile from the AEI ATRAE Program 2023 to incorporate consolidated talent. From September 2024 and for four years Dr Gentile will work <strong>Breaking barriers to treating post-traumatic stress disorder: nanoengineering applied to the development of multilayered capsules for the targeted release of therapeutics<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/showcase\/livergel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LIVERGEL<\/a><\/strong> is a PROMETEO GVA program (CIPROM\/2022) project that started on January 2023 to develop <strong>Liver cell models based on decellularized printable hydrogels for high-throughput drug screening<\/strong>. Profs. Gloria Gallego and Jos\u00e9 Luis G\u00f3mez Ribelles lead this project in close collaboration with medical doctor Teresa Donato at University of Valencia and Dr Laia Tolosa at La Fe Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>VISCOLIVER<\/strong> is a Spanish state research program (PID2022) that started in September 2023 and will run for three years. Its aim is the <strong>Modelling of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease with multicellular viscoelastic hydrogels<\/strong>. The project is coordinated jointly by Profs Gloria Gallego at CBIT and Manuel Salmer\u00f3n<strong> <\/strong>at IBEC in Barcelona. Medical researchers Teresa Donato and Dr Laia Tolosa lead a subproject at La Fe Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/tevimo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TEVIMO<\/a><\/strong> is a research network funded by the Spanish state research program (RED2024) that started in May 2025 and will coordinate networking and dissemination activiteis around <strong>Tissue engineering approaches for the development of healthy and pathological <em>in vitro<\/em> tissue models<\/strong>. Twelve partners participate in this network led by Prof Gloria Gallego.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BIONERV<\/strong> is a Spanish state research program (PID2021) that started in September 2022, for the <strong>Ex vivo engineering of pseudo-nervous structures and their in vivo translation<\/strong>. This project is led by Prof Manuel Monl\u00e9on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DATES<\/strong> s a Spanish state research program (PID2022) that started in September 2023. <br><strong>Dynamically adaptive microenvironment for tissue regeneration<\/strong>. The project is coordinated by Prof Jos\u00e9 Luis G\u00f3mez Ribelles with subprojects at Universidad de Zaragoza (Mohamed Doweidar), BCMaterials (Unai Silvan De Pedro) and Universitat de Val\u00e8ncia (Manuel Mata Roig).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MICROARN<\/strong> is a Spanish state research program (CPP2021) led by company Arthex Biotech S.L. <em><strong>Development of a first-in-class therapy for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) based on microRNA inhibitor oligonucleotides<\/strong><\/em>. Prof Jos\u00e9 Luis G\u00f3mez Ribelles is a partner in this project that runs from January 2023 to September 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>THERAPATCH<\/strong> is a Spanish state research program (PID2021) that started in September 2022 extended to December 2025. Prof Ana Vall\u00e9s Lluch leads this project to develop <strong>Dual skin patches as bi-functionalized platforms with therapeutic antibacterial and antiinflammatory properties<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/showcase\/solbio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>SOLBIO<\/strong><\/a> is a MFA\/2022 (Advanced Materials GVA program, Next Generation EU funding) project started in October 2022. SOLBIO stands for <strong>Soluciones de detecci\u00f3n y remediaci\u00f3n para la eliminaci\u00f3n de antibi\u00f3ticos en cursos de agua potables o residuales<\/strong>. Prof Jos\u00e9 Luis G\u00f3mez Ribelles leads at CBIT. The project is co-coordinated in collaboration with the Basque centre BCMaterials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/showcase\/cartigel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CARTIGEL<\/strong><\/a> is a AEI PDC2021 (Proof of Concept) project started in November 2021. CARTIGEL stands for <strong>Bioactive microgels as injectable support biomaterial for the regeneration of articular cartilage<\/strong>. The project is coordinated by Prof Jos\u00e9 Luis G\u00f3mez Ribelles and Prof Gloria Gallego Ferrer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/riseup-project.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>RISEUP<\/strong><\/a> is a H2020-FETOPEN project started in May 2021. RISEUP stands for <strong>Regeneration of injured spinal cord by electro pulsed bio-hybrid implant<\/strong>. Prof Manuel Monle\u00f3n leads this project at CBIT. The project is coordinated by the Italian agency ENEA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-primary-color has-css-opacity has-primary-background-color has-background is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#bddae6\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Recently ended<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/showcase\/nmd-synergy\/\">NMD-SYNERGY<\/a> &#8211; <strong>Design of cellular microenvironments to promote synergistic mechanotransduction of ion channels and integrins<\/strong>. The objective of this project, started in January 2019 and led by Dr Patricia Rico Tortosa, is to design biomaterial systems that simultaneously present ion release and cell adhesion domains, to synergistically stimulate the activation of ion channels and integrins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/showcase\/inocoes-cat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">INOCOES-CAT<\/a> &#8211; Started in September 2021, INOCOES-CAT stands for <strong>Ocular insert manufactured by multi-jet coaxial electrospinning for the postoperative treatment of cataracts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/showcase\/hepatoprint\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HEPATOPRINT Retos 2019 Project &#8211;<\/a> A 2019 Spanish State R&amp;D Program started in June 2020 and coordinated by Prof Gloria Gallego Ferrer and Prof Manuel Salmer\u00f3n S\u00e1nchez at CBIT. HEPATOPRINT stands for <strong>Biomimetic printable hydrogels for high-throughput hepatotoxicity studies<\/strong>. The project has 2 independent sub-projects led by research groups in CBIT and at Hospital La Fe in Valencia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/showcase\/biomicrogel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BIOMICROGEL Retos 2019 Project <\/a>&#8211; A 2019 Spanish State R&amp;D Program started in June 2020, coordinated by Prof Jos\u00e9 Luis G\u00f3mez Ribelles at CBIT. The goal of this project is to <strong>develop biomimetic microgels to recreate the interaction between tumour cells and their microenvironmen<\/strong>t. The project has 4 independent sub-projects led by research groups in Valencia, Zaragoza, and Bilbao.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/showcase\/biocord\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BIOCORD Retos 2018 Project<\/a> &#8211; <strong>A new bio-active device for Spinal Cord Injury regeneration<\/strong>, is a three year project funded by the 2018 Spanish State R&amp;D Program. The project started in January 2019 and is coordinated by our partner Dr Victoria Moreno Manzano at Principe Felipe Research Center (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cipf.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CIPF<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/showcase\/biocon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BIOCON Retos 2018 Project<\/a> &#8211; <strong>Engineered bioactive, electro-conductive and antimicrobial microenvironments able to stimulate bone regeneration and prevent multidrugresistant infections<\/strong>, is a three year project funded by the 2018 Spanish State R&amp;D Program. The project started in January 2019 and is coordinated by Prof Roser Sabater i Serra and Dr Jos\u00e9 Molina Mateo at CBIT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/showcase\/mechanoheal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MECHANOHEAL Retos 2018 Project<\/a> &#8211; This&nbsp;is a three year project funded by the 2018 Spanish State R&amp;D Program to <strong>Engineer cellular microenvironments to promote synergistic ion channel-integrin mechanotransduction<\/strong>. The project started in January 2019 and is led by Dr Patricia Rico Tortosa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a aria-label=\"Intramural Mieloma CIBER-BBN Project (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/showcase\/intramuralciber-bbnmieloma2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Intramural Myeloma CIBER-BBN Project<\/a> &#8211; A project to <strong>develop a microgel based culture medium for multiple myeloma cells<\/strong>. This is a CIBER intramural project that runs from 2019 to 2020 in collaboration with other CIBER-BBN and CIBERONC groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a aria-label=\"Proyecto TissueMieloma (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/cbit.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/showcase\/tissuemieloma-prometeo2016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TissueMyeloma Project<\/a> &#8211; <strong>Synthetic bone marrow to customize the treatment of patients with blood cancers<\/strong>. This is a Prometheus 2016 project funded by the Generalitat Valenciana that ended in December 2019.
