José Luis started with us in mid January and now with the lockdown, like everyone else in the team, he has been working from home. He talks here about the project he has joined, his previous education, and his professional goals.
I joined the team at CBIT earlier this year, just after finishing a MSc in Basic and Applied Neurosciences at Universidad de Valencia. I am now working with Profs Roser Sabater and José Molina within a research project that aims to engineer electroconductive biocompatible environments that stimulate bone regeneration, together with another project of assembling an intestinal bacterial release device based on polymeric materials who will improve patient’s microbiome after surgery, especially in Crohn’s disease.
I have a degree in Biotechnology (Universitat Politècnica de València) and throughout my education I’ve been extraordinarilyinterested in stem cells: what they are, how do they work and the astonishing potential they have in the biomedical sciences, from reprogramming and guided differentiation to the infinite cell resources they can provide to treat degeneration.
Starting an academic research career now, I look forward to work to combine the understanding of stem cells biology with biomaterials engineering in order to generate better bio-scaffolds, as therapeutic and research tools for degenerative injuries and diseases.
